Apparel from Polo Ralph Lauren: the mesh polo shirt with the embroidered pony, Oxford shirts, cable-knit jumpers, chinos, and underwear and sock multipacks. And fragrance: Polo Blue, Polo Red, Polo Black and Ralph's Club for men, and Romance and Ralph for women, in eau de toilette and eau de parfum.

Fit is the main apparel question: Classic Fit is roomy, Custom Slim Fit is trimmer through the chest and waist, and sizing is US-based, so compare the chart with a polo you own. Cotton mesh can shrink slightly in the dryer. For fragrance, EDP is more concentrated than EDT, and it's worth checking whether a listing is a tester or a gift set – and who is selling it. Stick to sellers with a solid rating, since fragrance is a common target for fakes.

Australia's big sale windows are EOFY in June and Boxing Day, with Prime Day in July and Black Friday and Cyber Monday in between. Fragrance is also heavily promoted around Father's Day in September and the Christmas gift season, and apparel drops at the end of each season when new colours arrive.

In a Ralph Lauren sale, seasonal colours of the polo, knitwear after winter and fragrance gift sets after the holidays are the likeliest to be reduced. Core navy, white and black polos and newly launched scents rarely are.
